Academic Excellence
By Registering for PCC you commit to the following:
Accountability:
Students will read their weekly assignments and turn in their work on time for each course because this
shows respect to God, the tutor, fellow classmates, and the grading committee. The grading committee meets weekly to grade homework. Discussion time is most beneficial when everyone has read the literature assignment and viewed the necessary videos. If a student does not read their book and does not bring
their book to the discussion, they will be asked to refrain from participating in discussion for that week. If a student fails to turn in an assignment on Monday, the assignment may be submitted by the following week with a one-letter grade deduction. After that time, the assignment will no longer be accepted and will receive a zero. The second assignment that is not completed will result in a talk or email to parents. The third time not doing an assignment in the same semester will result in director, teacher, parent, and student meeting and possible dismissal. Being prepared for class by reading books and doing
the assigned coursework is required.
Term papers, projects, tests, and quizzes will be given. Grades will be given for each course. Parent, teacher, director, and student meetings will be held each semester for an intentional time of feedback and accountability.
Moms Night Out:
In order to support Classical Christian Pedagogy in our Homeschool and at Prudentia, we have quarterly Mom's Night Out (MNO) book club meetings.
At each meeting, we discuss Classical Education books or a specific Classic "Great book" together. We glean from one another, wrestle, and inspire one another toward educating our children in goodness, beauty, and virtue. For new applicants: we are requiring parents to
read Classical Education and the Homeschool by Doug Wilson. This should be done before your parent interview with PCC Campus Director, Halee Mondry. This is a book PCC read together at our first book club meeting. It covers our goals more thoroughly and gives expectations we strive for in our community and at home. You could borrow this book from the friend that referred you to our co-op community.
Focus:
All PCC families are not to be enrolled in any outside Classical programs during 7th-10th grade, except for math. We are a full commitment community! We want you to get the most out of your year, so please refrain from over-committing to other outside classes. This is key to success in Classical-Christian Education and a close community with many extra events and activities. We do not want those outside courses to distract you from studying and serving at PCC. The committed families at Prudentia are what
make this community a treasure!
All children on campus must be enrolled in classes or nursery school. Children age 3 and under may sit on mom's lap during class. Please be considerate to the students; if your young child stays in class with you, step out if he/she is a distraction. Children are eligible for core classes at age 4 and must be enrolled by age 5 at the start of the school year. No "sit-ins" for older toddlers. We have minimal time together and we want the
students to have an undistracted environment on community days. Loving nursery care is available per semester at a shared rate based on the number of babies and toddlers.
"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17
Logic and Rhetoric Classes & Requirements:
Logic and Rhetoric course studies are all-inclusive. PCC does not offer an "A la Carte" track or single class track. We require students to actively participate, complete coursework assigned, and attend all the classes offered for their age level. Beginning in the 11th grade, this can be modified with the parent and
director based on college courses or job situations in the older teen years. All students must take Great Books courses up until 12th grade. Doing this will give students a graduating class of friends throughout their teen years. Parents choose within reason what level of classes to enroll their students in. The Logic Director Lisa Larios and Rhetoric Director Kimberly Haley will assist in realistic placement for a student. Please discuss any questions you have about that with them directly. All parents are to stay on campus weekly.
It takes all of us to run our campus on Mondays. Some suggested ways to spend your time on campus each Monday are:
Observing classes
Tutoring
Coffee/ tea duty
Class aide
Serving on the grading committee
Yard duty
Set-up chairs/ tables for classrooms
Helping in the nursery
Planning a field trip
Fellowshipping with other parents
Please designate what you can volunteer to do for the PCC community on your
registration form. Your Director will help you choose something that best uses your gifts and assists in blessing our PCC community.
